The Thing Is…
An open letter to someone who tried to break my heart…but did me a favor.
The thing is… I saw it coming. I saw the signs.
Instead of encouraging me to persevere through a hard season, I was resented for a circumstance I couldn’t control. The fact I worked two jobs, paid my bills and persevered was ignored.
You were on the verge of proposing but then changed your mind and became distant after my best friend visited. You were important enough to me that he came hundreds of miles to meet you, he was going to be my Honor Attendant at our wedding. You saw something in my relationship with him that wasn’t there.
The times when you let others steal my work or use it without giving me credit…that says it all.
You loved the idea of me. I’m still not real sure what that idea actually was.
The thing is… This was all a blessing. You saved me from getting into a situation were I wouldn’t be trusted, respected or allowed to be who I am.
So, thanks. I hope that wherever you are, you are finally happy.
